August 2, 2010 - Northern League (NL)
Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

For the first time this season, a member of the Winnipeg Goldeyes has nabbed a Northern League Award.

Goldeyes designated hitter Juan Diaz has been named the Northern League's Player of the Week.

Diaz helped Winnipeg to a 5-2 record last week and series wins over the Rockford RiverHawks and Lake County Fielders. Diaz went 14-for-28 at the plate for an impressive .500 batting average and hit three home runs. He also drove in 12 runs and had a .821 slugging percentage.

Diaz leads the Goldeyes in home runs on the season with 17, which puts him fifth among Northern League hitters. His 53 RBI also lead the team and are third-best in the Northern League.

Playing in his 14th professional season, Diaz reached the Major Leagues with the Boston Red Sox in 2002. He has 271 career home runs, including one with the Red Sox, and over 1,200 career hits.

Former Fish Bear Bay was named the Northern League's Pitcher of the Week.

Winnipeg opens a three-game set in Gary tonight against the RailCats. It's the final three games of a 10-game road trip, during which the Goldeyes have a 5-2 record so far.

The Goldeyes return home Friday night to begin a three-game series with the league-leading Kansas City T-Bones.
