FORT MYERS, Fla. - Lewin Diaz blasted his team leading 11th home run of the season, and Jordan Balazovic allowed one run in 5.2 innings of work to help the Miracle defeat the Florida Fire Frogs, 7-4, on Thursday night at Hammond Stadium.
Diaz's blast, a two-run home run to the right of the batter's eye, gave the Miracle a 5-0 lead in the second.
RBI hits from Ernie De La Trinidad in both the third and fifth innings extended the Miracle lead to 7-0. De La Trinidad finished 3-for-4 on the night with a triple and two runs batted in.
Florida broke through in the sixth on an RBI single from Trey Harris before scoring three times in the eighth. Riley Delgado doubled in a run before scoring on an error to trim the deficit to 7-3. Later in the inning, Harris earned his second RBI of the evening on a ground out.
Melvi Acosta earned his first save of the year with 1.1 scoreless innings. In the ninth, Acosta retired the first two batters he faced before surrendering consecutive singles. He then retired Delgado on a fly out to left to preserve the win.
For the third time in the series, Fort Myers scored in the first inning. With runners at first and second and two outs, Jose Miranda chopped one through the right side to give the Miracle a 1-0 lead. The Miracle added four runs in the second. Hunter Lee and Royce Lewis each recorded RBI before Diaz's blast.
Balazovic (4-0) won his fourth straight decision. The Mississauga, Ontario, Canada native walked one and struck out seven.
The Miracle open a three-game series on Friday night against the Jupiter Hammerheads, the Class-A Advanced affiliate of the Miami Marlins. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
