
Diamonddawgs Fall Short In Late Inning Rally

Two of the hottest teams in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL) faced off Tuesday night at Veteran's Memorial Park in Little Falls. The nationally ranked Amsterdam Mohawks, ranked 15th in the Summer Top 30 and sitting atop the PGCBL standings with a 13-2 record faced put in on the line against the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs who came in winning five of their last six games. The Mohawks offense was just to much as the Dawgs put up a strong effort with a late inning rally but lost 9 to 4.
The DiamondDawgs sent 2011 Atlanta Brave draft pick John Means (Fort Scott C.C) 1-1, 1.02 ERA to the mound while Connor Kaden (Wake Forest) 0-1, 1.86 ERA got the start for Amsterdam. The DiamondDawgs used five pitchers to try and silence the Amsterdam bats; however the Mohawks had other plans netting a total of seven hits. Means pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up six hits, five runs (one earned), threw one wild pitch and picked up seven strikeouts. Evan Davis (Marist) was charged with the loss after pitching 2/3 of an inning giving up three earned runs, walking and hitting a batter and throwing a wild pitch and recorded one strikeout. Hassan Evans (Herkimer C.C) relief appearance resulted in 2/3 of an inning pitched issuing three walks a wild pitch and hit two batters. Taylor Wright (Brown) pitched 2/3 of an inning with three strikeouts and Salvatore Lisanti pitching an inning giving up a hit.
The Mohawks sent four pitched to the mound with starter Connor Kaden (Wake Forest) picking up his first win of the season. The Mohawks also used Scott Heath (Maine), Jeff Boehm (Kentucky) and Kevin Archbold (UAlbany) to secure the victory.
The scoring for the DiamondDawgs was led by Jack Morrow (Young Harris) who went 2 for 5 with a homerun, a run scored and an RBI. Jonathan Scott (Bryant) scored a run as he went 1 for 3, Tyler Hall (Herkimer) contributed two RBI in his 1 for 3 performance and Tyler Heck (Union) walked twice and picked up a stolen base.
Ed Charlton (NJIT) led the Mohawks in hitting with a 2 for 4 performance picking up a double, two runs scored, an RBI and walking once. Chase Green (SIU Edwardsville) smashed a homerun in his 1 for 4 night with two runs scored an RBI and a walk. Other notables included Evan Stephens (Wake Forest) going 1 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored; Zak Colby (Faulkner) scored a run and went 1 for 3 and D.J. Hoagboon (UAlbany) went 1 for 3 with a double, two RBI and a run scored.
Both teams had plenty of errors to kick around with the Dawgs letting four slip by to the Mohawks five.
The DiamondDawgs return home Friday night against the Glens Falls Golden Eagles for a 7:05 game.
