DiamondDawgs continue hitting well in rout over Watertown

Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs News Release


The Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs were back to Veteran's Memorial Park for a Perfect Game Collegiate League (PGCBL) Sunday matinee against the Watertown Wizards. The DiamondDawgs offense exploded for ten runs to help secure the team's seventh win of the season in a 10-2 rout.

Cameron Sorgie (UAlbany) pitched seven innings for the Dawgs and gave up four hits, two earned runs, walked three and recorded ten strikeouts for his first win of the season. Aaron Casper (Canisius) came in to relieve Sorgie and pitched two innings giving up one hit and walking three and recording three strikeouts.

Wizards' starter Ryan Filipowicz (Holy Cross) was pounded for seven earned runs on nine hits and walked three with two strikeouts and picked up his second loss of the season. Bryan Burns (Plattsburgh State) came in for relief but allowed three more runs, two of which were earned and gave up a walk and hit two batters. Devante' Taylor (Alcorn State) was brought in for an inning of and allowed one hit, a walk, hit a batter and picked up three strikeouts.

The offensive parade was started by Hassan Evans (Herkimer C.C.) who homered in the bottom of the second inning and gave the DiamondDawgs a quick 3-0 lead. Evans led the DiamondDawgs going 2 for 4 with a double, two runs scored and four runs batted in (RBI). Tyler Hall (Herkimer C.C.) contributed going 3 for 3 with a run scored and two RBI. Evan Wolf (UC Davis), Jesse Buratt (Baton Rouge C.C.) and Eric Helmrich (Marist) all went 1 for 3 for the Dawgs and combined for five runs scored. Helmrich also added a triple and an RBI. Eddie Sorondo (Delaware State) went 1 for 5 and added a run and an RBI while Jack Morrow (Young Harris) went 1 for 5 belting a homerun in the fifth.

The Wizards slim offense came from Donald Walter (Cal Poly Pomona) who homered and went 2 for 5 on the night with a run scored and an RBI. Jordan Enos (Holy Cross) and Conor Dishman (Wabash Valley C.C.) both went 1 for 4 with Enos adding a double while Dishman tripled and scored a run.

The DiamondDawgs return home to Veterans Memorial Park on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 for a 7:05pm contest against the first place Amsterdam Mohawks.
