Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs News Release

LITTLE FALLS, NY- Most baseball fans love the crack of a wooden bat as it meets the ball. The fans at Veteran's Memorial Park certainly got their fill of that sound Sunday night.

The Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs and Utica Brewers combined for 30 hits and 26 runs, with the Diamond Dawgs getting the better end of the slugfest, 17-9.

Mohawk Valley (15-6) catcher Andy LaLonde (Bedford, NH/Southern Maine) made his home debut one to remember, as he got his chance in the bottom of the eighth inning and crushed a three-run home run to left field.

The Brewers (3-17) would start out the scoring, however, scoring seven runs in the first three innings and chasing Mohawk Valley starter Mike DeCarlo (Wynantskill, NY/Herkimer College) out of the game after only 2 1/3 innings with the Brewers up 7-3.

Corey Lerche (West Nyack, NY/Gloucester CC) would add a home run of his own in the fifth inning, but unfortunately for Lerche, his third home run would not be enough for the win.

The Diamond Dawgs would come roaring back, scoring 14 runs between the fourth and eighth innings and relying on a solid outing by relievers Lucas Godlewski, Terry Dugdale (Amherst, NH/UAlbany), Evan Kissinger (Baton Rouge, LA/LSU-Eunice) and Enzo Esposito (Lawrenceville, NJ/Millersville). The relievers would allow only two runs over the last six innings to shut the Brewers down for good.

Godlewski (Little Falls, NY/Herkimer College) would get the win for Mohawk Valley, his third of the year, to raise his record to 3-0. Craig Boyett would get the loss for the Brewers and drop his record to 0-3.

With the loss, the Brewers have now lost 12 out of their last 13 games.

The Diamond Dawgs will get some much needed rest on their off day on Monday before facing the same Utica team on Tuesday. The Brewers will try to start the second half of the season on a good note as they will travel to Bob Bellizzi Field to face the Albany Dutchmen.
