Diablos win series finale 8-4

Adam Blackley threw six solid innings as the El Paso Diablos defeated the Shreveport Sports 8-4 in the series finale on Sunday night from Cohen Stadium.

Shreveport scored the games first runs in the top of the third inning. Ron Fenwick poked a single to left-center field plating Chris Smith and Brandon Hudson for the 2-0 advantage. Shreveport made it a 3-0 lead in the top of the fourth with a Chris Smith RBI single.

The Diablos bounced back in the bottom of the fourth. Walter Olmstead had an RBI triple and Bryon Smith plated a runner with a ground out setting the score at 3-2.

El Paso took the lead in the bottom of the fifth. J.D Reininger scored on a fielders choice and Stantrel Smith crossed the dish on a Alex Derhak sacrifice fly giving El Paso a 4-3 advantage.

The Diablos pounded out three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning making the lead 8-3. J.D Reininger had an RBI double and Matt Kent had an RBI single in the frame.

Shreveport pieced together one run in the top of the ninth inning. However, Chris Thompson struck out the last two batters of the game to close the door.

Adam Blackley (1-0) picks up the victory. He threw six innings allowing three earned runs off of six hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

Matt Clayman (0-1) is the losing pitcher, he threw six full allowing three earned runs off of five hits with no walks and two strikeouts.

Jusef Frias and Jason Veechio each threw a scoreless inning of relief.

The Diablos will take Monday off before opening up a three-game home series against the Wichita Wingnuts on Tuesday morning at 11:30 AM. David Whigam will make his first start for the Diablos. The game will be broadcast live at www.diablos.com with Jon Barr on the call.
