El Paso Diablos News Release
EL PASO, Texas â The El Paso Diablos will open the 2004 Texas League season at home on Thursday, April 8th against the Round Rock Express. That game will be the first in a 10-game home stand to start the season for the Diablos, who will be entering their 15th year at Cohen Stadium and their 31st year in the Texas League. As always, the schedule will feature 70 regular-season home games, with the Diablos also wrapping up the year at home Sunday, September 5th versus Midland.
The Diablos began play at Cohen during the middle of the 1990 season, which means that 2004 will be the club's 14th full season at Cohen and the 15th year of baseball overall at the northeast El Paso facility. At some point during the 2004 campaign, the club expects to welcome the four-millionth fan through the gates at Cohen (regular season attendance only). A special ceremony and prize package is in the works for the event.
El Paso's opening night opponent, the Round Rock Express, will begin its fifth and final year of play in the Texas League. That franchise is slated to move to Corpus Christi in time for the 2005 season. The Diablos will play the Express 28 times in 2004, more than any other team on the schedule. El Paso will play its other West Division rivals, Midland and San Antonio, 24 times each. The Diablos will also play 16 games against each club in the East Division.
There are a total of 33 weekend dates on the schedule, with the Diablos home for 11 Fridays, 11 Saturdays and 11 Sundays. The team will again be home for July 4th, which this coming year falls on a Sunday. In 2003, a crowd of 10,836 turned out on July 4th, the second largest single-game attendance figure in franchise history.
Diablos' season ticket and mini-plan packages are on sale now. The price for a season ticket holds steady at $295, as is the case for the 15-game mini-plan, which remains $75. There are a variety of mini-plans available, all ranging between $50 and $100 per box seat. Special group rates, new general admission "flex packs" and specialty seating areas will once again be available for Diablos' fans. Those desiring additional information on ticket plans may call the Diablos at 755-2000.
