Devin Brown Finally a Patriot
November 26, 2002 - NBA G League (G League)
Fayetteville Patriots News Release
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C., November 26, 2002 â The Fayetteville Patriots have played 60 straight games without the benefit of their No. 1 overall selection. Devin Brown will bring that streak to an end Friday. Devin Brown, the Fayetteville Patriots first-round draft selection and the second overall pick in the 2002 National Basketball Development League Draft, has been reassigned to the Patriots roster according to an announcement today by NBDL Executive Director Karl Hicks. Fayetteville waived guard Richie Dalmau to make room for Brown. The Patriots' first-round picks have a tendency to leave early, which is good. Last season, the Patriots selected Chris Andersen with the No. 1 overall pick in the draft. But just two games into the season, the Denver Nuggets made him the first NBDL "call up." Just two days after being drafted by the Patriots, Brown was called up to the San Antonio Spurs when Speedy Claxton was injured.
The 6-foot-5, 235-pound guard played in seven games for the Spurs, averaging 1.7 points and 1.0 rebound per game. As a senior at Texas-San Antonio in 2001-02, he averaged 18.3 points and finished as the school's all-time leading scorer with 1,922 career points.
The Patriots play host to the Roanoke Dazzle on Friday at the Crown Coliseum. Game time is 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $6-$21.
Dalmau played in three games before being released by the Patriots, averaging 0.7 points and 0.7 rebounds per game. Brown is scheduled to arrive in Fayetteville Friday prior to the Patriots' home game against the Roanoke Dazzle. He will wear jersey number 14.
