NEWARK, N.J. - Patrick Maroon and Michael Ratchuck each recorded their second goal of the preseason as the Philadelphia Phantoms defeated the Lowell Devils, 4-1, at the AmeriHealth Pavilion at Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.
Maroon, who scored the deciding goal in overtime in Monday's exhibition match against Lowell, notched the game's first marker with an unassisted power play tally at 11:50 of the opening frame.
The Phantoms added to their lead 2:39 into second period when Ratchuck beat Devils goalie Dave Caruso for what would be the eventual game-winner. Scott Munroe, in between the pipes for Philadelphia, stopped all 17 shots he faced and gave way to Jacob DeSerres after two periods.
After a Dave Laliberte tally gave the Phantoms a 3-0 lead at 8:16 of the third, Matt Halischuk swept his second of the preseason past DeSerres for a power play goal with 1:35 left in the contest.
Zac Rinaldo added an empty-netter for Philadelphia to complete the scoring. Caruso finished the game with 25 saves on 28 shots.
The Devils next take the ice for a preseason contest against the Providence Bruins at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Friday, October 3 at 7:05 p.m.
The Lowell Devils' home opener is Saturday, October 11th, as they host the Worcester Sharks at 7:00 p.m. Individual tickets and season ticket packages are on sale now for the 2008-09 season.
