Princeton WhistlePigs News Release

Attendance: 952 Next Game: 6/22 vs. Burlington Indians

Game Notes:

The Princeton Devil Rays opened the season tonight against the Burlington Indians. Pitching dominated the contest throughout as both teams were held scoreless over the first seven innings. Princeton starter Mike Wlodarczyk threw three brilliant innings of no-hit ball before giving way to the relief corps. Indians starter Luis Carlos Valdez was also quite effective, going five innings scattering three hits and striking out five. After leaving the bases loaded in the bottom of seventh, the Devil Rays were able to capitalize in the eighth to take the lead. With men on first and second, Matt Devins drilled an RBI single that scored John Matulia. The Indians retaliated in the top of ninth. Devil Rays pitcher Chris Kelly gave up a single and a walk to start off the inning. Kelly was quickly replaced by Robert Findlay, who was unable to prevent Justin Holmes from driving in P.J. Hiser from third with an RBI groundout to tie the contest. However, it was the Devil Rays who would get the last tally of the game. Ryan Royster opened the bottom of the ninth with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch by Josh Harris. Jairo Delarosa then hit a line drive RBI to left field to win the game for the Rays. These same two teams play again at 7:00 pm tomorrow at Hunnicutt Field in Princeton.
