Southwest Michigan Devil Rays News Release
Battle Creek, MI - The Tampa Bay Devil Rays have released infielder Ryan Bethel. Bethel, the Rays 32nd round choice in the 2005 June draft, was hitting .103 with 14 strikeouts. Brandon Rousseve has been sent down to extended spring training in St. Petersburg. Rousseve, Tampa Bay's 45th round selection in the 2003 June draft, was batting a team low .091 with 28 strikeouts and no RBIs.
The new players being added to the Southwest Michigan Devil Rays are Cesar Suarez and Jason St. Clair. Suarez is coming up from extended spring training. Suarez was signed in 2000 as a free agent by the New York Yankees. He was release from the Yankees system in 2002 and was later picked up by the Cleveland Indians in 2003 and was released later that year. It is Cesar's second year in the Devil Rays system. Last year he was in extended spring training in St. Petersburg but did not play. Jason St. Clair comes to Southwest Michigan from Visalia. St. Clair was the Rays' tenth round choice in the 2001 June draft. He has made is rounds in the Devil Rays farm system playing in Princeton in 2001, Charleston and Hudson Valley in 2002, Charleston and Hudson Valley in 2003, Charleston and Bakersfield in 2004, and Visalia in 2005 and 2006. This year in Visalia, St. Clair is batting .222 with four RBIs.
