July 9, 2022 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Detroit City FC News Release
INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana- The Detroit City Football Club dropped its final match of the season on the road against Indy Eleven by a scoreline of 3-0. Le Rouge finishes its inguagual USL W campaign with a 3-6-3 record.
Goalkeeper Deighton Wamer started out strong with back-to-back saves in the third and fourth minutes to save Detroit City from suffering an early 2-0 deficit, but her team wasn't able to produce enough offense to come out with the win.
Le Rouge (3-6-3) got into scoring position when forward Kenna White just missed the top right corner on a mid range shot in the 19th minute. Indy Eleven (10-2-0) answered quickly with a chance of their own thanks to a shot from Addie Chester that rolled just wide of the net at the 23rd minute.
After her brace against Detroit City at Keyworth, it only made sense that Katie Soderstrom would be the first to score in today's match. Le Rouge had no answer for the Indy Eleven star who scored her 10th goal of the season at the 26th minute to give her team a 1-0 lead heading into the locker room at halftime.
At the beginning of the second half, Detroit City decided to switch things up and put Bethany Kopel between the sticks. Around the 60th minute, Indy maintained possession near the goal and got multiple shots on the goal, but were unsuccessful until Chester found the ball and got a soft roller past Kopel to put Indy up 2-0.
Much like the two clubs' first matchup, Indy's scoring didn't stop there. Soderstrom finished the match with yet another brace, scoring on a penalty kick at the 62nd minute after getting fouled in the penalty area and putting Indy up 3-0.
While Detroit City's season is done, Indy Eleven will now advance to the USL W playoffs beginning on Monday, July 13.
