Destroyers take the Field for the First Time

Columbus Destroyers News Release

COLUMBUS, OH – The Arena Football League's Columbus Destroyers will begin the team's final week of training camp with a scrimmage in Detroit versus the Fury on Monday morning at the Palace of Auburn Hills. The first of three scrimmages to be played at the Palace Monday, the Destroyers and Fury will kickoff at 10 a.m.

After a three-week camp, Monday's scrimmage will likely give head coach Earle Bruce and his staff a clearer picture of who will suit up when the Destroyers travel to Indiana to face the Firebirds for the team's inaugural season opener on February 7. "The scrimmage in Detroit will tell us a lot about the capabilities of the players we have here in training camp," said Bruce. "We can't keep everybody, so this will be the time for each player to show us what they can do."

The Destroyers concluded their second consecutive week of two-a-days on Friday prior to a single morning session on Saturday. The team will travel to Detroit on Sunday in advance of Monday's scrimmage and resume training camp in Columbus at the FieldHouse on Tuesday. Beginning Tuesday for the final week of camp, the team will hold one practice per day with each session running from 9-11 a.m. Players and coaches will be available to the media immediately following practice at 11 a.m. all week.

Following Columbus' scrimmage with Detroit, Indiana will play Grand Rapids at 2 p.m. and then Chicago will face Detroit at 6 p.m.

*The FieldHouse is located at 6124 Busch Blvd. in Columbus.
