Destroyers Sign Former Buckeye Quarterback Justin Zwick

COLUMBUS, OH - The Columbus Destroyers, presented by Germain, have signed quarterback Justin Zwick to the active roster, Head Coach Doug Kay announced today. The team also waived defensive lineman Mondre Dickerson and quarterback Perry Patterson.

Zwick (6-4, 225, The Ohio State University) will play his first season in the Arena Football League in 2008. A member of the 2002 Ohio State National Championship squad, he appeared in 29 games played he completed 159-of-276 passes for 1,779 yards and seven touchdowns. The Orrville, Ohio native will serve as the backup signal caller to Matt Nagy in the Destroyers 2008 season opener at Colorado.

The team designated three players to the injured reserve list; linebacker Peter Lazare-Saunders (6-2, 300, CW Post), offensive lineman Eric Graham (6-6, 325, East Carolina) and fullback Nate Ilaoa (5-9, 245, Hawaii).

Three players were also signed to the practice squad; defensive back Rob Carey (5-10, 175, Lock Haven, Pa.), linebacker Lee Foliaki (6-2, 245, Texas A&M) and Matt Thomas (6-1, 185, South Carolina).

The Destroyers travel to kickoff the 2008 season against the Colorado Crush on March 2 at 4 p.m. (ET) at Pepsi Center in Denver. The game can be heard on WNNK 107.1 FM with the broadcast tandem of Todd Walker and Rob Blackman beginning at 3:30 p.m. (ET).

The Destroyers will open their 2008 home schedule against division and in-state rival Cleveland Gladiators in the "Battle of the Buckeye State" presented by Columbus Worthington Air on Saturday, Mar. 15. Kickoff at Nationwide Arena is slated for 7 p.m. The first 10,000 fans will receive a 2008 Destroyers magnet schedule. During the post game autograph session, presented by Nationwide, fans will be able to win a $10 gift certificate in the Giant Eagle Ham Toss.

WE BELIEVE Saturdays are made for football. The Destroyers 2008 home schedule features seven Saturday night games and one Monday night contest.
