Columbus Destroyers News Release
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Columbus Destroyers have obtained offensive/defensive lineman Dan Rumishek (pronounced RUM-ih-sheck) from Kansas City in exchange for defensive specialist Art Smith, team president David Paitson announced Tuesday. The team also waived wide receiver/defensive back Bobby Britton.
Rumishek (6-4, 273, Michigan) joins the Destroyers after spending half of the 2005 Arena Football League season with the New Orleans VooDoo. Rumishek saw limited action and had one tackle and a pass breakup. He began the season with the Arizona Rattlers.
Prior to 2005, Rumishek got his feet wet in the NFL. After a stellar career at Michigan, Rumishek went to camp with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2003 and spent most of the season on the injured reserve. In 2004 he went to camp with the San Francisco 49ers.
At Michigan, Rumishek was a four-year letterman for the Wolverines. He was named to the all-Big Ten First Team in 2001 and was a Second Team selection in 2002. His career totals include 68 tackles (51UT-17AT), 17 tackles for a loss, 11 sacks, seven pass breakups, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and two interceptions.
Rumishek prepped at Addison Trail High School where he led his team to the Illinois Class 6A state championship game in 1997. That same season, he was named First Team all-state by the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times.
The Destroyers finished the 2005 season fourth in the AFL in attendance, averaging 15,229 fans per game in eight home contests at Nationwide Arena. In addition, the Destroyers became one of only two teams in the league to draw over 250,000 fans combined during the past two years (Philadelphia). The Arena Football League enters its 20th season with 18 teams competing for the coveted James F. Foster Cup awarded to the champion of ArenaBowl XX. Be sure to watch the AFL on NBC every Sunday beginning in January.
