Destroyers Meet Detroit... Again

Buffalo Destroyers News Release
(BUFFALO, NY) - It seems like déjà vu all over again, as the Destroyers host the Detroit Fury Saturday night at 7:00 PM at the HSBC Arena in the second half of their home-and-home series. This is the only time this season that two Arena Football League teams meet in consecutive weeks. Detroit squeaked out a 50-48 win last week at The Palace of Auburn Hills, but the Destroyers look to hold serve in Buffalo.
"Having back to back games is very rare in professional football," said Destroyers head coach and general manager Ray Bentley. "We are excited to have a chance to redeem ourselves against a team we should have beat."
OS Lamont Cooper was named the AFL's Offensive Player of the Week after racking up 415 all-purpose yards last week for the Destroyers, second highest in league history. Cooper also broke seven Destroyers single game records.
"Lamont had a career day against Detroit last week," said Bentley. "He is what this whole thing is built around. He is the focus of our offense and we will keep giving him the ball until someone figures out a way to stop him. I'll be shocked if Detroit is able to stop him."
For the Destroyers to get back on the winning track, they need to improve on a defense that is last in the AFL, giving up 56.7 points per game. The Destroyers have caused only two turnovers in their first three contests.
"Defense was a point of emphasis for us this week, we need to take care of the little things" Bentley added. "Our last two practices have been the best we've had all season."
The Destroyers activated OS Jarrail Jackson from injured reserve and put OL/DL Eric Miller on IR with a leg injury.
The Destroyers continue their homestand next Saturday, May 18 as they host Eastern Division leader the Toronto Phantoms. The border war starts at 7:00 PM at the HSBC Arena. Single game and group tickets are on sale now. Call 881-4444 today!
