(BUFFALO, NY) â The Buffalo Destroyers of the Arena Football League will host a free agent open tryout on Saturday, November 30, 2002 at the Buffalo Destroyers Amherst Practice Facility. Registration begins at 8 a.m. There is a $50 (cash only) registration fee.
"This is a great opportunity for us to find talent," said Destroyers assistant head coach/offensive coordinator Ryan Gallo. "There are a lot of great athletes in Western New York and the surrounding areas who don't get the opportunity to showcase their skills. This gives those athletes a chance to live their dream of playing professional football.
The Destroyers Amherst Practice Facility has an indoor field with artificial turf. Prospects should wear shorts, sweats, t-shirt and turf or tennis shoes. Try-outs will be from 9:20 a.m.-11:00 a.m. At 11 a.m., an invitation only tryout will be held. All tryouts will be done by 12:30 p.m.
All attending players will be put through a series of tests to measure speed, strength and agility. The tests will be followed by a series of offensive and defensive drills. In addition, each player will be evaluated in drills specific to position.
The Buffalo Destroyers are not responsible for any costs incurred by participants. All participants will be required to sign a waiver.
The Destroyers Amherst Practice Facility is located at 4415 Millersport Highway, Amherst, New York 14051.
Buffalo kicks off its fifth season in the Arena Football League Saturday, February 1, 2003 as the Destroyers host the Grand Rapids Rampage at the HSBC Arena. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Season tickets are on sale now. Call 881-4444!
