(BUFFALO, NY) â The Buffalo Destroyers announced today they have signed OS Tyree Davis. Davis, 32, will be a rookie in the Arena Football League but has played five seasons in the National Football League, four years in the Canadian Football League and two seasons in NFL Europe.
Davis (5-10, 185, Central Arkansas) joins the Destroyers after finishing last season with the Calgary Stampede of the CFL. He also spent time last season with the Toronto Argonauts. He had 15 receptions for 134 yards and 16 punt returns for 132 yards in 2002.
Davis played four seasons for the Montreal Alouettes of the CFL from 1998-2001. While in Montreal, he had 153 receptions for 2,735 yards and nine touchdowns. He also had 50 punt returns for 555 yards and two scores.
Davis was a seventh round draft pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1993 and appeared in 14 games in the NFL with Tampa Bay (1993-95) and Seattle (1997). In his four seasons in the NFL, Davis had two receptions for 48 yards and returned 16 punts for 104 yards.
Davis also spent two springs with the Barcelona Dragons of NFL Europe (1995,97) and was the league's top receiver with 743 yards and six touchdowns as part of the Dragons World Bowl Championship team in 1997.
Davis set school records at Central Arkansas with 158 career receptions and four punt returns for touchdowns. His 2,481 career receiving yards are second all-time. He was a first team NAIA Division I All-American his senior year and his team won the national championship his junior year.
Buffalo kicks off its fifth season in the Arena Football League Saturday, February 1, 2003 as the Destroyers host the Grand Rapids Rampage at the HSBC Arena. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Season tickets are on sale now. Call 881-4444!
