
Destroyers Defeat Rush 26-21 In Three Quarter Scrimmage

COLUMBUS, OH - The Columbus Destroyers, presented by Germain, beat the defending ArenaBowl Champion Chicago Rush 26-21 on Tuesday at Nationwide Arena in a three quarter scrimmage.
The scrimmage gave fans their first look at the 2007 Destroyers including off-season acquisitions; quarterback Matt Nagy, wide receivers Damien Groce and Josh Bush. All three were key in the team's preseason victory, beginning with Nagy connecting with Bush in the first quarter for a touchdown to tie the game 7-7.
In the second quarter, Groce caught a pass from quarterback Scott Dreisbach to tie the game 14-14. Fullback Harold Wells then gave Columbus its first lead and when he pushed his way over the goal line from the two-yard line.
In third quarter, the Destroyers added to their lead when the Rush fumbled, the return of a Columbus missed field goal attempt, at the two-yard line and recovered it in the end zone. The play resulted in a safety to give the Destroyers a 23-14 lead. Kicker Peter Martinez added a 33-yard field goal in the third quarter to give the home team a 26-14 lead.
Chicago added a touchdown late to round out the scoring. The visitors had one final play from mid-field, but Rush quarterback Russ Michna's pass fell incomplete in the end zone.
Columbus Destroyers training camp is now in its second week at the Columbus FieldHouse.
