Columbus Destroyers News Release
COLUMBUS, Ohio - In conjunction with the pre-game appearances of former OSU football stars Mike Vrabel, Bobby Carpenter and Anthony Schlegel during Professional Football Night last Saturday at Nationwide Arena, Columbus Destroyers fans donated more than 600 new or gently used children's books to support the non-profit organization co-founded by Mike Vrabel, the 2nd and 7 Foundation, to promote literacy throughout Central Ohio.
The mission of the Columbus-based, non-profit 2nd & 7 Foundation is to help promote literacy throughout Central Ohio. Former Ohio State football players Ryan Miller, Mike Vrabel and Luke Fickell created the idea of the 2nd & 7 Foundation after graduating from The Ohio State University in the Spring of 1997, months after winning the 1997 Rose Bowl.
The proceeds from various fundraising events held each summer are used to buy books for students in the Columbus City School District. Each year, Mike Vrabel, Ryan Miller, and Luke Fickell travel to 2nd grade classrooms in 7 different Columbus schools to read to students and give each one a book to take home and keep. For more information on the 2nd and 7 Foundation, visit www.secondandseven.com or call (614) 470-2570.
