Soul re-acquire OS Steve Smith from Brigade

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Soul announced today they have traded OL/DL Cyron Brown and WR/LB Aaron Boone to the expansion Kansas City Brigade for OS Steve Smith. As per club policy, terms of the deal was not disclosed.

Smith (5'9", 180, Utah State) re-joins the Soul for the second half of the 2006 season after playing in Philadelphia in 2005. In seven games with the Brigade this season, Smith has recorded 42 receptions for 534 with nine touchdowns. He has also ranks fifth in the Arena Football League with 38 kick returns for 652 yards.

"I hate to part ways with Cyron and Aaron, but we need a spark on offense," head coach Bret Munsey said. "We were able to bring back a guy who has proven himself in the AFL and here in Philadelphia. We are hopeful he can pick-up where he left off."

Last season, Smith started in 16 games for the Soul and finished fifth in League in receiving yards with 1,443 after catching 107 passes with 28 scores. He surpassed 100 yards and two touchdowns in seven separate games during the 2005 season. Always a threat on special teams, Smith also returned 69 kicks for 1,425 yards with three touchdowns.

The Soul travel to Dallas this Saturday, March 25 to face the Desperados. Kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on Comcast SportsNet (Tape Delayed at 10:30 p.m.). The Soul return to the Wachovia Center on Friday, March 31 when they host the Austin Wranglers.
