
Destroyers add Wilson, waive four as 2005 roster begins to take shape

COLUMBUS, OH â The Columbus Destroyers of the Arena Football League have signed wide receiver/linebacker Sir Mawn Wilson to a free agent contract, the team announced today. Wilson joins the Destroyers after spending the 2004 season with the Carolina Cobras.
Wilson (6-2, 230, Syracuse) has played in six previous AFL seasons with four different teams, registering 107 catches for 1,109 yards and 12 touchdowns in 55 career games. He began his AFL career in 1997 as a member of the Arizona Rattlers before spending three seasons with the Tampa Bay Storm (2000-2002). Following his stint with the Storm, Wilson spent one season with the Buffalo Destroyers in 2003 where he finished fourth on the club with 30 catches for 412 yards and three touchdowns.
Prior to entering the AFL, Wilson was signed by the Miami Dolphins as a rookie free agent before the 1996 NFL season, however was waived during training camp. He also spent time with the Denver Broncos (1997) and New England Patriots (1998-1999) before joining the Storm in 2000. Wilson was active for the final two games of the regular season and entire postseason in 1997, winning a Super Bowl ring as a member of the Broncos.
In other personnel moves, the Destroyers have waived defensive specialist Henry Baker, fullback/linebacker Toran James and wide receiver/defensive backs Jason Kaiser and Torrey Day.
The Columbus Destroyers open the 2005 season on Friday, January 28 when the club hosts the expansion Nashville Kats at Nationwide Arena. Kickoff is slated for 7PM. Season tickets are available now starting as low as $99 for eight regular season games plus one home playoff game.
