June 15, 2007 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Dallas Desperados News Release
WHAT: The Dallas Desperados continue their annual Impact Player Program with the assistance of Speedzone on Monday, June 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. WR/DB Will Pettis, WR Willis Marshall, OL/DL Albert Stinson, OL/DL Terrance Dotsy, WR Dialleo Burks, along with members of the Dallas Desperados Dance Team and Kid Coyote, will make a visit to Speedzone to play arcade games and sign autographs for 100 children and youth attending The Salvation Army summer day camp in Irving and Oak Cliff.
The Salvation Army's day camps provide structured, low-cost child care during the summer to give working poor parents a high-quality alternative to expensive daily child care. The weekday program includes activities that are both fun and educational. The day camps have positively impacted the lives of hundreds of at-risk youth who otherwise would be left at home without supervision during the summer while school is out. Speedzone has graciously provided these children and youth with the opportunity to play games along side the Dallas Desperados players and dancers
This visit is a part of the Desperados Impact Player Program, which strives to be a positive influence in the lives of Dallas-area children. Initiated by Desperados head coach Will McClay in 2003, the Impact Player Program continues to spread positive influence and goodwill throughout Dallas-Fort Worth.
"We welcome the opportunity to give back to the community that continues to support us," said McClay. "We acknowledge that the Desperados have a unique role to make a difference and we are devoted to working with a variety of charities, schools and civic groups in order to make a positive impact across the Metroplex."
The Salvation Army is worldwide Christian organization that in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex provides 45 different services to help make life better for needy individuals and families. Services include: substance abuse treatment, homeless shelters, life-skills classes, nonperishable food, Christmas gifts for children, domestic violence programs, emergency financial assistance, child care, after-school programs, summer day camps, computer training, senior citizens services, and low-cost youth sports leagues.
The Salvation Army's religious and social service activities serve millions of men, women and children in more than 100 nations around the world. Volunteers, contributors, and other supporters make the services possible in local communities across the country. For more information, go to www.salvationarmydfw.org.
