
Desperados Release Eight; Re-Sign Jones

DALLAS, Texas - The Dallas Desperados released eight players today to begin trimming their roster down to the league-mandated 24-man roster while also re-signing one of the team's defensive leaders in DB Jermaine Jones to a two-year contract extension. The following players were waived today:
DB Ricky Bell (5-11, 200), OL Chris Berg (6-1, 300), OL Aaron Gibson (6-6, 370), OL Brett Rayl (6-6, 318), WR Bret Smith (6-3, 195), WR George Williams (6-1, 210), WR Jeris McIntyre (6-0, 215) and DL Mike Williams (6-3, 245).
The Desperados must release six more players to meet the 24-man league maximum roster by Monday, Feb. 25 at 4 p.m. (CST).
Dallas also awarded Jones (5-9, 187) with a two-year contract extension today that runs through 2010. The six-year veteran is the Desperados all-time leading tackler with 401.5 career tackles.
The Dallas Desperados open the 2008 season in a nationally televised game on ABC at the Georgia Force on March 1 at 12 p.m.
