Dallas Desperados News Release
The Dallas Desperados open the Arena Football League playoffs this Saturday by hosting the Indiana Firebirds at 3:30 p.m. at Reunion Arena. Knowing that a lot of metroplex football fans will be thinking about the opening of Dallas Cowboys training camp in San Antonio, TX, this weekend, the Cowboys are the presenting sponsor for Saturday's game as the Desperados pay tribute to one of the greatest running backs in NFL history.
Saturday's game will be "A Tribute to Emmitt" with video highlights, promotions and give-aways. Emmitt Smith, in his 13th NFL season, needs to rush for 540 yards this fall to break Walter Payton's career NFL rushing record. Smith currently holds the NFL's record for most 1,000-yard seasons in a career (11), most consecutive 1,000-yard seasons (11), most rushing touchdowns in a career (148) and most rushing touchdowns in a season (25), and is the Cowboys all-time leading rusher.
The first 10,000 fans into Reunion Arena Saturday afternoon will receive an Emmitt Smith tribute t-shirt as they enter the building. At halftime, fans will be treated to a highlight video of several of Emmitt's top runs and performances. And don't miss the "Cowboys Ranch Reports" played throughout the game, giving training camp updates from San Antonio.
In addition, fans attending the game wearing their Emmitt Smith jersey will be eligible to participate in an on-field promotion with the opportunity to win a special give-away from the Cowboys.
The Dallas Desperados â who led the AFL in attendance during their inaugural season â are looking for a rowdy crowd at Reunion Arena Saturday to spur the team to victory over the Indiana Firebirds. These two teams played each other June 8 at Harrah's Field at American Airlines Center, with Dallas claiming a 79-65 victory. The 79 points Dallas scored against the Firebirds was a season-high for the club, and fans can expect another high-octane, high-scoring game Saturday afternoon.
