Dallas Desperados News Release
In their first Arena Football League playoff game, the Dallas Desperados defeated the Indiana Firebirds 47-46 at Reunion Arena last Saturday afternoon to advance to the quarterfinals of the AFL postseason. The Desperados will travel to Chicago to faced the Rush at Allstate Arena on Monday, Aug. 5th at 7:30 p.m. (CDT).
The Desperados and Rush faced each other July 13th at Allstate Arena in the next to last game of the regular season. The teams battled back and forth for the entire game during the first meeting. Dallas closed the first quarter with a 14-10 advantage, but went into halftime tied with Chicago at 31-31 after Jason Wells converted a 20-yard field goal as the half expired. Both teams found the end zone twice in the third quarter and once each in the final frame.
Dallas had a chance to take control of the game in the fourth quarter when they were driving at the Chicago 11 yard line with a seven point advantage when Jim Kubiak â playing for the injured Andy Kelly â was intercepted by Dameon Porter, who raced 49 yards with the theft for the tying touchdown. The Desperados then drove to the Chicago 14 yard line before lining up for a 29-yard field goal attempt. Wells pushed the attempt wide right as the clock expired, sending the game into overtime. Dallas was forced into a 57-yard field goal attempt on their first possession of the extra frame, which was missed wide left. Two plays later, Billy Dicken hooked up with Cornelius Bonner for the 27-yard game-winning touchdown.
The Monday, Aug. 5th game will be televised by ESPN2 on a tape delayed basis. The game can be seen on ESPN2 at 10:00 p.m. CDT. The game will mark the Desperados third national television broadcast of the season and their first appearance on ESPN2.
