IRVING, Texas - Dallas Desperados Chief Operating Officer Shy Anderson was named the Arena Football League's Executive of the Year on Monday. Now completing his fifth year as the Desperados COO, Anderson joined the Dallas Cowboys in 2000 and immediately assumed the responsibilities of spearheading the Cowboys involvement in Arena Football.

"I am extremely honored to receive this accolade," said Anderson. "It is acknowledgement of the great season we had, not only as a team but as an organization. It provides me with an incentive to build on our accomplishments for next year. The Desperados worked hard both on the field and in the community this season to continue growing the excitement of Arena Football to the Dallas area. This award is just further proof that we are headed in the right direction."

Charged with shaping the image of the Dallas Desperados in a heavily saturated DFW sports market, Anderson used his managerial and marketing skills to help the team create its own identity. Since that time, Anderson has played an active and visible role in the club's daily operations in corporate sales, arena relations, contract negotiations and management.

"There is no question that Shy is worthy of this honor," said Jerry Jones, Jr., Desperados President and General Manager. "He has been with this team since its inception and has been a very visible part of every stage of our growth. The fact that the Desperados had the AFL's best record in 2006 - and came within a game of the championship - is a testament to Shy's vision and leadership. His expectations are to see the team bring home a title and be a championship contender for years to come, and I believe he has put the foundation in place to achieve those goals."

For more than 14 years prior to entering the sports world, Anderson worked in the telecommunication industry and earned valuable experience as a quality team builder with telecom giant ALLTEL. Through stints in sales as Regional Vice President, Corporate Vice President of Marketing and President of the Southwest Region for ALLTEL, he helped establish functional organizations that grew the company from a strong regional player into an international force.

With this award Anderson joins the ranks of Desperados players and coaches who also earned league honors in 2006: Desperados Head Coach Will McClay was named AFL Coach of the Year prior to the end of the season, and offensive/defensive lineman Colston Weatherington was named the league's Lineman of the Year. Quarterback Clint Dolezel, FB/LB Duke Pettijohn and Weatherington all claimed positions on the AFL's 2006 All-Arena First Team. Pettijohn also joined teammate Will Pettis on the league's 2006 All-Ironman Team.

The Desperados finished the 2006 season 14-4, claiming the Eastern Division Championship and home field advantage throughout the playoffs before falling to the Orlando Predators in the National Conference Championship game.
