Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - LW Mark Derlago's third goal of the game came 11 seconds into overtime to give the Bakersfield Condors a 4-3 victory over the Las Vegas Wranglers in front of 5,173 fans at Rabobank Arena Saturday night. Bakersfield is now just one game away from moving on to the Pacific Division Finals as the series shifts to Las Vegas next week.
For just the second time in the series, the Condors opened the scoring. F Brett Pilkington notched his second of the playoffs at 3:27 to make it 1-0. Just over two minutes later on the power play, Derlago made it 2-0, banging in a rebound for his third of the playoffs. Vegas got on the board late in the period. C Justin Taylor cut the lead in half with his first of the playoffs at 15:05. Shots were 11-8 in the period in favor of Las Vegas.
The Wranglers tied the score in the opening minutes of the second frame, with F Scott McCulloch snapping home a shorthanded tally to make it 2-2. Vegas took the lead at 15:51 with D Brett Tyler's first of the playoffs, but Derlago netted his second of the game just 44 seconds later to knot it up again. G Yutaka Fukufuji stopped 26 shots through the first two frames.
The third period came and went without either team regaining the lead. The two clubs combined for 17 shots in the period, and the Wranglers led 39-25 at the end of regulation.
Overtime didn't last long. The Condors gained the zone and Derlago let a blast rip from the top of the left circle that struck paydirt just under the crossbar for the game winner. It was the second hat trick of the post-season for Bakersfield and the third of the season for Derlago.
