Denver Cutthroats News Release
Denver - The Denver Cutthroats President and Head Coach Derek Armstrong will coach opposite former Colorado Avalanche center Pierre Turgeon at 3:00 PM on Saturday, June 21 at Edge Ice Arena in Littleton, Colo. for Dawg Nation's Annual "Survivor Game."
Armstrong and Turgeon suited up together during the 1993-94 season with the National Hockey League's New York Islanders.
"I am excited to coach against Pierre," said Armstrong. "He is one of the greatest hockey players of all time and even though he can beat me at ping pong, my team is going to beat him at Dawg Bowl for redemption."
The "Survivor Game" is composed of local hockey players who have overcome their battle against cancer or other illness and injury. The special game is designed for players, coaches and fans alike to show their support for those who have fought and continue to fight against these illnesses and injuries. "It is always amazing to participate in such an event and give back to the community," expressed Armstrong.
Denver Cutthroats General Manager and Assistant Coach Brad Smyth will join fellow players Sean Zimmerman and Phil Tesoriero along with owner John Hayes on the ice for Dawg Nation's Dawg Bowl tournament from Thursday, June 19 to Sunday, June 22. Fans are encouraged to cheer on the Cutthroats team throughout the weekend. They also have the opportunity to meet with Cutthroats players and coaches on Saturday from 1:30 - 3:00 PM.
The Denver Cutthroats will hit the ice for their third season in October 2014 at the Denver Coliseum. For season ticket information, call 303.295.3474 or visit DenverCutthroats.com.
