FC Edmonton News Release

FC Edmonton (2W-3D-5L) dropped their final match of the North American Soccer League (NASL) Spring Season 3-0 to Indy Eleven (3W-4D-3L), June 13 at Carroll Stadium in Indianapolis, Il. Eddies head coach Colin Miller made a handful of changes to the starting lineup due to the notable absences of internationals Lance Laing (Jamaica) and Mallan Roberts (Canada).

Indy received scoring from the likes of Brian Brown, Dustin Mares and Duke Lacroix. In net, Kristian Nicht earned the clean sheet for the home side. Edmonton was unable to generate a goal through ninety minutes of play, with John Smits and Matt VanOekel splitting the game with 45 mintues of play each.

The home side took a 1-0 lead in the 39th minute. After winning the ball in their end, Mares found Brian Brown in the Eddies half, where the striker took a long-range shot that found the bottom right hand corner.

Indy continued their strong opening half with a second goal in the 44th minute. Brad Ring was taken down by Smits inside the box after the 'keeper stopped an attempt from Mares. The referee signaled for a penalty, where Mares put away his opportunity to give Indy a 2-0 lead heading into the half.

"We made so many changes here today that it was almost expected," Miller said at half time following the pair of Indy goals. "The guys haven't played together as a unit. We've lost five or six first team players for different reasons."

Edmonton's lone opportunity in the opening on net in the half came on 20 minutes, when midfielder Chad Burt crossed the ball inside the box to striker Frank Jonke, but Jonke's header would go high over the Indy crossbar.

Miller made two substitutions to start the second half of play, with VanOekel entering the pitch for Smits and midfielder Cristian Raudales coming on for Hanson Boakai. It was short-lived time on the pitch for Raudales, who was shown a red card after only 22 minutes.

The Eleven sealed a win on 82 minutes, when striker Lacroix received a through ball from Charlie Rugg before striking a hard shot past VanOekel for the 3-0 final score line.
