Denver Cutthroats Headed to Ray Miron Presidents' Cup Finals

Denver - The Denver Cutthroats hosted the Arizona Sundogs for Game Five in the second round of the 2014 Playoffs on Saturday, April 26 at the Denver Coliseum. Coming into Game Five, the Cutthroats needed one more win to advance to the final round of the Playoffs and they got it Saturday night with a 7-0 victory over the Sundogs.

The Denver Cutthroats came out strong in the first period to gain advantage over the Arizona Sundogs. Garett Bembridge (A.J. Gale, Aaron MacKenzie) set off the horn for Denver's first goal of the night. Teammate J.P. Chabot (Vincent Arseneau, Lee Moffie) shot a one-timer to the back of the Sundogs net to give the Cutthroats a 2-0 lead to close the opening frame.

On a breakaway goal, Vincent Arseneau (T.J. Fox) extended Denver's lead 3-0 over Arizona just three minutes into the second period. A.J. Gale (Garett Bembridge, Troy Schwab) fired the Cutthroats fourth net bender between the Sundogs posts at the 5:40 mark. Off the rebound, A.J. Gale (Schwab, Steve Kaunisto) scored his second goal of the night and sixth of the season to put the Cutthroats up 5-0.

A.J. Gale (Bembridge) fired a shot on the open net to notch a hat trick on the night early in the final 20 minutes of regulation. Robin Soudek (Cam Reid, Gale) scored the Cutthroats seventh and final goal of the game. Denver's netminder Kent Patterson recorded his second shutout in the post-season, having stopped 46 of 46 shots on goal against Arizona on Saturday night. The Cutthroats 7-0 victory over the Sundogs will advance Denver to the Ray Miron Presidents' Cup Finals.

The Denver Cutthroats will play the first two games in the 2014 Playoff Finals on Friday, May 2 at 7:00 PM and Saturday, May 3 at 6:00 PM at the Denver Coliseum. Denver's final opponent will be the winner of the Quad City Mallards and Allen Americans series.
