Arizona Sundogs News Release

Prescott Valley, AZ - The Arizona Sundogs were shutout in what was their last game of the season in a 7-0 loss against the Denver Cutthroats at the Denver Coliseum Saturday night. The Sundogs were 1-3 in the series, heading into Saturday's game and with seven unanswered goals came the heartbreaking elimination in the semi-finals. This was the first time the Sundogs have advanced past the opening round since their championship season in 2008.

The Sundogs led the Cutthroats in shots on goal, 16-13 after the first 20 minutes and received a few great opportunities but couldn't get the puck past Denver's Kent Patterson. 5:34 into the first period Daniel Barczuk received a penalty shot chance after being hooked by Tom Maxwell on a breakaway but was denied the goal by Sundogs goalie Adam Brown. 10:53 Garret Bembridge connects on a pass from AJ Gale and Aaron MacKenzie giving them the lead which they would carry into the second period. Arizona saw a close call and what was almost Denver's second goal when Mark Isherwood turned over the puck in front of the Sundogs net but was gloved down by Brown. JP Chabot notched Denver's second goal 16:21 into the period with a feed from Vincent Arseneau and Lee Moffie extending their lead by two. With 30 seconds left in the opening frame Matt McCready was sent off for roughing and Mike Trebish got two for unsportsmanlike conduct, resulting in a 5-on-3 man-advantage for Denver, which carried into the second period.

Denver put up three more unanswered goals for a 5-0 lead after the second. Arseneau tallied Denver's third goal when he beat Brown stick side from TJ Fox only 3:11 into the period. 2:29 later Gale poked the puck past Brown on the rebound to register Denver's fourth goal. Gale found the back of the net for the second time 12:10 into the period from Troy Schwab and Steve Kaunisto.

7:04 into the final frame Gale tallied his third goal of the game, collecting a hat trick furthering Denver's lead by six goals. The Cutthroats offensive heat continued when they scored their seventh goal from Robin Soudek.

Sundogs' Brown made 23 saves and faced 30 shots on net. Neither team scored on the power play and were both 0-5. The Sundogs outshot the Cutthroats 47-30.
