Denver Cutthroats Fall in Sudden Death Overtime

Allen - The Denver Cutthroats battled the Allen Americans in Game Four of the Ray Miron Presidents' Cup Finals on Friday, May 9 at the Allen Event Center. In a hard-fought battle, the Cutthroats fell in sudden death overtime to the Americans 4-3.

Denver took the opening lead of the night when Robin Soudek (Cam Reid, Lee Moffie) fired a shot to the back of Allen's net. The Americans Jonathan Lessard (Tyler Ludwig, Mike Berube) matched the Cutthroats goal with just over five minutes remaining in the first frame.

Jamie Schaafsma (Greger Hanson, Bruce Graham) gave the Americans the lead for the first time in the night with the team's second goal. Aaron MacKenzie (T.J. Fox, Sean Zimmerman) tied the score at two with a shot between Allen's posts. Teammate J.P. Chabot (Troy Schwab) lit up the red light to extend the Cutthroats lead 3-2. A little over two minutes shy of the second intermission, Daniel Tetrault (Ross Rouleau, Lessard) tied the score at three with a shot past Denver's netminder Kent Patterson.

It was a true Playoff battle in the third period that left both teams scoreless and sent the fourth game of the Ray Miron Presidents' Cup Finals into sudden death overtime. Jonathan Lessard (Steven Tarasuk, Kale Kerbashian) scored the game-winning goal at the 16:07 mark in the overtime period on Friday night. The Americans 4-3 victory gave the team a 3-1 lead in the 2014 Playoff Finals series as they head into Game Five against the Cutthroats.
