Denike Returns to Bombers

Dayton Bombers News Release

Dayton, OH - The Dayton Bombers announced today that goaltender Terry Denike has agreed to terms for the 2007-2008 season, according to General Manager Don MacAdam. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"I'm very excited to come back to Dayton and pick up where we left off," Denike said.

Denike, a 6-foot-two-inch, 190-pound native of Burlington, Ontario, Canada, joined the Bombers midway through the 2006-2007 season, at a time when the team was facing the challenges of American League call-ups.

"Terry joined us at a difficult time in the season," MacAdam said. "With both of our goalies (Adam Berkhoel and Dan LaCosta) in the American League, Terry did a terrific job carrying the entire goaltending load."

The 26-year-old netminder posted an 11-4-2-3 record in 20 starts to finish out the regular season, with a 2.13 GAA and .921 save percentage. Denike also tallied two assists. He backstopped the Bombers to a period of nine consecutive games without a regulation loss, including a 6-0 shutout against the Trenton Titans (now Devils) on March 4.

That performance, paired with two previous victories, earned Denike the Rbk Hockey Goalie of the Week award; he received the award again less than a month later after helping the Bombers clinch their first playoff berth in five seasons.

"Last year we fell a little bit short," said Denike of the 2007 American Conference champions. "Now the goal is to get back to where we were and finish the job."

Prior to joining the Bombers, the 2001 NHL Entry Draft fifth round selection (152nd overall) of the Los Angeles Kings began the 2006-2007 season in the Southern Professional Hockey League for Florida before the team folded in January. He played in the SPHL the last two seasons with Jacksonville, Macon and Florida and in 2006 was named the SPHL Goaltender of the Year after going 28-13-6 with two shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.97 and a save percentage of .910 in 48 games for Florida.

Denike joins defensemen Greg Labenski and Corey LeClair on the Bombers 2007-2008 roster.

The Bombers' Opening Night Extravaganza is Saturday, October 20, against the rival Cincinnati Cyclones (7:00 p.m.) at the Ervin J. Nutter Center. Group tickets for Opening Night are on sale now by calling 775-4747.
