DeJesus Mows Down Colts

HARLINGEN - Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings starter Misael DeJesus (1-3) struck out 13 San Angelo Colts in a 9-1 victory Friday at Harlingen Field.

DeJesus only allowed hits to Colts (20-21), Ronnie Gaines and Josh Collazo, who combined for three singles and a home run, which was Collazo's fifth. DeJesus issued one walk, and that was to Landon Camp, the last batter he faced, after an eight-pitch at-bat. DeJesus struck out the side in the fourth innings and recorded his final four outs on strikeouts while last six and two-thirds innings.

Freddy Ballestas and Anderson Garcia combined for four strikeouts in the final two and one-third innings to give the WhiteWings a total of 17.

The WhiteWings (16-23) broke through against Aaron Cunningham (2-4) in the bottom of the third. With Javis Diaz on first base and two outs, Yeurys Tejeda doubled into the leftfield corner to make it 1-0.

Arlon Quiroz led off the bottom of the fourth with his fourth home run of the season. Eric Gonzalez followed with a walk, moved to second on a single, to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a groundout by Roberto Rodriguez to make it 3-0.

Collazo hit his home run in the fifth to make it 3-1.

With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Kevin Griffin doubled and Tejeda walked to knock out Cunningham. Tristan Gaines came in and allowed an RBI-single to Lunay Sanchez. One out later, Gonzalez walked to load the bases and Welinson Baez followed with a grand slam. Joel Roa doubled and Roberto Rodriguez hit an RBI-single to make it 9-1.

The WhiteWings and Colts play a doubleheader of seven innings games on Centennial Saturday at 6:05 p.m. The WhiteWings will be honoring the 50's decade in Harlingen history by wearing special throwback uniforms to be auctioned of through a raffle and silent auctions during the game and a live auction after the game. Any fans wearing 50's clothing can get a free ticket with the purchase of another ticket. Gates open at 5:05. Right-handers Luis Montano (3-2) and Andres Rosales (2-2) are expected to face right-handers Brian Henschel (2-4) and Bryan Heaston (1-0).
