
Defenseman Ryan Button Assigned to Reading

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that defenseman Ryan Button has been assigned by the Boston Bruins from the Providence Bruins of the AHL to Reading. In separate transactions previously completed, the Bruins (i) recalled forward Yannick Riendeau and re-assigned him to the Providence Bruins; and (ii) assigned goaltender Karel St. Laurent from the P-Bruins to the Royals. In another a separate transaction, defenseman Derrick LaPoint was returned to the Royals from the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL. Also, in a transaction previously completed, forward John Scrymgeour, who was activated off the 7-Day IR to play in Sunday's game against the Florida Everblades, has been placed on the 3-Day IR. Also, forward Richard Purslow, who was transferred from the 3-Day Injured Reserve to the 7-Day IR on Tuesday, has been activated from the IR for tonight's game.
Button (6'0/193) (20), who hails from Edmonton, Alberta, has played two games with the P-Bruins this season and picked up two penalty minutes. Last year, Button registered thirty-five points (5g-30a) in the Western Hockey League, where he split the season between the Prince Albert Raiders and, after a mid-season trade, the Seattle Thunderbirds. Button, who was a third round pick of the Bruins in the 2009 NHL entry draft, joined the P-Bruins after the conclusion of his WHL season last year and played seven games with Providence, picking up an assist and two penalty minutes. Button, who registered 113 points (16g-97a) and 168 penalty minutes in 264 total games in the WHL, signed a three-year entry level deal with the Bruins in May of 2011.
LaPoint, who was loaned by the Royals to the Crunch on Sunday, October 23, played one game with the Crunch without registering any points or penalty minutes. Riendeau, who had been re-assigned to Reading on October 12, played four games with the Royals, registering two points (1g-1a) and two penalty minutes. St. Laurent, who played a pre-season game for the Royals on October 9, was recalled to Providence on October 13 and appeared in two games for the P-Bruins, recording his first pro win when he 37 shots in a 4-3 victory over the Portland Pirates on October 22 (1-0-0, 3.46, .907). St. Laurent has not yet appeared in a regular season game with the Royals. Purslow has not yet played in a regular season game for the Royals.
The Royals return to action tonight (Thursday, October 27, 2011 @ 7:05 pm) when the South Carolina Stingrays visit the Sovereign Center. The game night broadcast, presented by Boscov's Travel and the Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, will kick off at 6:35 pm with the Red Robin Gourmet Burger pre-game warm-up show on ESPN Radio 1240 am in Reading.
