August 13, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Stockton Thunder News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder (@StocktonThunder), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League, and head coach and director of hockey operations Rich Kromm announced today that the team has agreed to terms with rookie defenseman Landon Oslanski. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"Last season during the playoffs, Landon proved that he has great upside as a two-way defenseman who can be counted on in key situations, including the power play," said Kromm. "He had a great career in the Western Hockey League as an offensive defenseman, coming out of a league that has a solid track record for producing well-rounded talent. We're excited about his growth potential based on numerous recommendations in the hockey circle."
Oslanski, 21, joins Shawn Boutin, Nathan Deck, Ryan Hayes and Garet Hunt as the fifth returning Thunder player from last season's Western Conference championship team.
The 6-foot, 202-pound defenseman made his pro debut during the 2013 Kelly Cup Playoffs, skating in six games while collecting an assist on an overtime game-winning goal in Game 2 of the Western Conference Final at Idaho.
Oslanski also set career highs with 17 goals and 48 points in 72 games last season with the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League, ranking second in team scoring and leading the Silvertips in goal scoring among defensemen. He also paced the team with 31 assists and earned three assists in six WHL playoff games.
For his major junior career, Oslanski totaled 118 points and 85 assists in 279 career WHL games with Everett, Lethbridge and Spokane.
The Thunder opens the regular season at home for "Opening Night," with the unveiling of the Western Conference championship banner on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 7:30 p.m. against the Colorado Eagles at Stockton Arena.
A two time recipient of the ECHL "Award of Excellence" and defending Western Conference champion, the Thunder led the ECHL in attendance for four consecutive seasons and drew over 200,000 fans for the eighth consecutive season in 2012-13. Season Tickets and Mini Plans are on sale now.
