Defenseman Lackner Re-Signs With RiverKings

Mississippi RiverKings News Release

(Southaven, MS) - A productive pillar at the blue line for the Central Hockey League (CHL) Northeast Division champion Mississippi RiverKings will be looking to produce even more for the RiverKings in the coming year. Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin "Killer" Kaminski has announced that defenseman Andrew Lackner has agreed to re-join the RiverKings for the 2009-2010 season.

Last year with the RiverKings, the 26-year old Lackner set professional career highs for goals scored with seven, assists with 15, points with 22, and penalty minutes with 45 in 57 games played. In addition, Andrew had the highest plus-minus statistic in games played with the RiverKings at +21.

"This is a great signing for us," Kaminski said. "Lacks really played well at both ends for us. He was our best plus-minus D-man and kept on thriving and adjusting to the systems. His confidence thrived right through the playoffs and was a key to our success." The post-season was where the 6-foot, 195-pound native of Elmira, Ontario made a larger impact, as he scored four goals for nine points with six penalty minutes in 12 post-season contests. Andrew tied RiverKings' teammate Derek Landmesser for fourth among CHL defensemen in points and was tied for second among blue liners for goals scored in the playoffs. He led the league's defensemen in power play goals with three and had the highest shooting percentage among D-men at .143 (four goals on 28 shots on goal).

Lackner hopes to translate last year's success into more production from the blue line this year. "It was one of the goals I wanted to do last year and Killer gave me every opportunity with the amount of ice time and playing situations where I could help the team. I hope I can up those numbers up a little bit more this year."

Lackner played the 2007-2008 campaign with the Northeast Division rival Tulsa Oilers, where he was one of two players to play in all 64 games of the regular season. Lackner scored three goals for 13 points with 41 penalty minutes for the Oilers.

Lackner came to the CHL from the United Hockey League, where he played the 2006-07 season with Bloomington, Chicago, and Fort Wayne. Andrew ended the season with Fort Wayne, where he took part in 17 regular season encounters and nine playoff games for the Komets. In that season between the three teams, Lackner tallied five goals for 26 points and was charged with 32 penalty minutes in 70 contests. Kaminski looks for Lackner to contribute even more in the season ahead. "We look for great leadership and work ethic this year from Lacks," Kaminski noted. "He's going to be leaned on a lot more with the attributes he has both on and in the community." Lackner's career statistics can be found here:
