Grand Rapids Griffins News Release
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Detroit Red Wings on Monday assigned defenseman Danny DeKeyser (de-KAI-zuhr) to the Grand Rapids Griffins.
A native of Detroit, DeKeyser signed with the Red Wings on March 30 after completing his junior season at Western Michigan University, where he was named an NCAA Second Team All-American and the CCHA's Best Defensive Defenseman for the second straight season. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound blueliner picked up 49 points (12-37-49) and 107 penalty minutes in 118 games with the Broncos over three seasons.
DeKeyser, 23, made his NHL debut on April 5 at Colorado and went on to register one assist and two penalty minutes in 11 games with Detroit, then appeared in two playoff games before breaking his thumb on May 2. He is not expected to be available for Game 6 or a potential Game 7 in Grand Rapids.
The Griffins took a 3-2 lead in the Western Conference Finals after shutting out the Oklahoma City Barons in back-to-back games on Saturday and Sunday. The team has a chance to advance to its first-ever Calder Cup Finals, when it hosts Game 6 on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at griffinshockey.com.
