Walla Walla Sweets News Release
VICTORIA, B.C.- The Walla Walla Sweets (23-20) were shut down and shutout by the Victoria HarbourCats (32-11) in game one of the series 3-0. It was the third time the Sweets had been shutout this season.
The HarbourCats drew first blood off of starter Bobby Ay (Cal Poly) in the fourth inning. With a runner on second, an overthrow of first base by second baseman Jarren Duran (Long Beach State) allowed the first run to score. It was an unearned run and the only one that Ay allowed.
Two errors with two outs in the eighth inning kept the frame going for the HarbourCats to load the bases. A two-run single gave Victoria enough cushion to take the first game of the series.
Willie MacIver (Washington) had his bid for a third straight day with a home run robbed when the left fielder for the HarbourCats, Jarron Silva, took one back over the wall in the fourth inning.
The Sweets and the HarbourCats will match-up once again tomorrow at 6:35 P.M. Easton Lucas (Pepperdine) will take the mound for Walla Walla.
