Phoenix Rising FC News Release

PHOENIX - Phoenix Rising Football Club announced today that defender Joey Farrell would return for the 2019 season. Per club policy, the details of the contract will not be made public.

"I am buzzing at the opportunity to be back with Rising FC next season," Farrell said. "We set the bar high this year, but there is only one direction that this club goes and that is up! Can't wait to see the fans in 2019."

Farrell signed with the club on December 18, 2017, last season and played 2,225 minutes in 26 appearances. He was first among defenders in goals with four tallies and he was second overall on the team in clearances (112) and aerial duels won (92). Farrell was a part of a record-breaking defensive unit that broke a single-season club record for most clean sheets in a season (15). He also played every minute of the club's 2018 playoff run.

Farrell signed his first professional contract with the Rochester Rhinos in 2016 and had a dominating rookie campaign. As a center back, he finished third on the team in goals (5) and points (11) and was named the club's Defensive Player of the Year. He was also one of three finalists for USL Rookie of the Year and finished the season on the USL All League Second Team. In 2017, Farrell scored two goals and added an assist and led his club in clearances and aerial duels.

Farrell becomes the third player officially announced for the 2019 roster. He joins fellow returnees James Musa and Collin Fernandez, who were announced last week.
