Altoona Curve News Release
(ALTOONA, PA) â The second annual Dean Patterson Curve Classic will feature an eight-team field highlighted by defending District 6 and State Championship teams, the Curve announced today.
Defending DPCC champion Altoona will be joined in the tournament by defending District 6-A and PIAA State Champion Bellwood-Antis. Fellow District 6 champs, Central (AA) and State College (AAA), will also participate in the second-year event. Other participating schools are Bishop Guilfoyle, Forest Hills, Huntingdon and Hollidaysburg.
The DPCC will be played at Blair County Ballpark in Altoona over a span of four dates in April and May with quarterfinal, semifinal and championship rounds. On Friday, April 23 and Saturday, April 24, the quarterfinal games will be held. The semifinals are set for Tuesday, April 27 and the Dean Patterson Curve Classic Championship Game is slated for Saturday, May 1 as part of a doubleheader with the Curve's home game against the Erie SeaWolves. "We couldn't be happier with the tournament's growth," said tournament director Rob Egan. "To have a defending state champion and all of the District 6 champs from last year participating, we feel fortunate. Despite some scheduling challenges, the field has grown to eight teams thanks to the cooperation of the participating schools. We're looking forward to a great event that we hope will be a highlight for the young athletes involved."
Dean Patterson Chevrolet returns as the title sponsor of the Curve Classic, continuing its tremendous support of youth athletics in the region. In addition to the Dean Patterson Curve Classic, the dealership has title sponsorship of the Dean Patterson Little World Series, the Dean Patterson Great Chevy Shootout and the Dean Patterson Little Stanley Cup.
"Nothing signifies spring more than the beginning of baseball season," said title sponsor and community leader Dean Patterson. "I'm delighted to be a part of this outstanding showcase of athleticism and sportsmanship."
For the second straight year, admission to the tournament games will be free of charge. Donations will be accepted for the Dean Patterson Curve Classic Scholarship Fund. Last year, Jim Clancy of Altoona won a $1000 scholarship for being named the DPCC's Most Valuable Player.
