DB Travis Williams Returns to Spokane

Spokane, WA: The Spokane Shock announced today that DB Travis Williams has been added to the 2012 roster. Williams, who has spent the last two seasons with the CFL's BC Lions, was a member of Spokane's 2010 ArenaBowl Championship roster.
As an AFL rookie, Williams collected 75.5 tackles with 21 pass break-ups and six interceptions as an AFL rookie during the regular season. Williams' contributions continued in the postseason, recording 10.5 tackles and two interceptions, including one in Spokane victory over Tampa Bay in ArenaBowl XXIII.
Immediately following his success in Spokane, Williams was signed by the BC Lions. After spending the remainder of the season on the Lions' practice squad he was elevated to the active roster for the 2011 season and collected 10.5 tackles with one pass break-up in two games.
"Travis is an unbelievably talented player and he proved that here in 2010," Head Coach Andy Olson said. "He has some of the best footwork of any DB with incredible closing speed. Travis has all of the physical gifts and when you add a championship to his resume, this is a big addition for us."
General Manager Ryan Rigmaiden echoed those sentiments.
"Travis has the talent to be in the CFL and in the NFL," General Manager Ryan Rigmaiden explained. "He knows that if he is going to get back to those higher levels of football Spokane is the place to play.
We moved Travis up once before and I know he has the talent that we can help him again. "
In addition to the CFL and the AFL, Williams also has professional experience in the NFL (Pittsburgh Steelers) and in the af2 (Arkansas Twisters). Prior to his professional career, Williams starred at East Carolina where he racked up 156 tackles with three forced fumbles and four interceptions. On special teams, he returned 39 punts for 517 yards with one touchdown. Williams recorded 11 kickoff returns for 249 yards with one touchdown.
Williams is the 20th player added to Spokane's 2012 roster.
