ROANOKE, Va., May 10, 2002 â Brian Resnick, a ticket sales representative for the Roanoke Dazzle since September, has been named a Group Sales Representative by the NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers and their parent Cavs/Gund Arena Co.
Resnick's hiring represents the fourth National Basketball Development League front-office "call up" to a major league organization since the NBDL's inaugural season began last November.
Resnick, 23, played a major role in helping the Dazzle make a significant jump in attendance during the second half of the NBDL season. Resnick is a Merrick, N.Y., native and magna cum laude graduate of Potsdam (N.Y.) State, where he played basketball and lacrosse. He also previously worked two NBA internships, in team marketing/business operations and with NBA Entertainment.
"Brian's efforts have been significant in the start-up of the Dazzle," said Roanoke Team President Joe Preseren. "He was our leading ticket salesperson and he has represented us well in the community. Although we will miss him, we know that he will have continued success as he moves on to the Cavaliers."
Resnick's responsibilities in Cleveland will include group sales for the NBA Cavaliers, WNBA Rockers, the Mid-American Conference basketball tournament and Gund Arena family shows, including Champions on Ice, the Harlem Globetrotters and Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. He begins work at Gund Arena on May 28.
Eight NBDL players were called up to the NBA during the NBDL's inaugural season.
The NBDL, the NBA's minor league, includes the Dazzle, the Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), North Charleston Lowgators (S.C.), Huntsville Flight (Ala.), Mobile Revelers (Ala.), Columbus Riverdragons (Ga.), Greenville Groove (S.C.), and Asheville Altitude (N.C.). The league offers players the opportunity to develop their talent in a highly competitive atmosphere under the NBA's umbrella. The NBDL serves as a source of on-court talent and as a diverse human resources pool for the NBA and its teams by training employees in management, operations, public relations, sales and marketing positions in each NBDL city.
