Dazzle Hold on For a High-Scoring Victory Over the Patriots
November 20, 2005 - NBA G League (G League)
Roanoke Dazzle News Release
The Roanoke Dazzle held on late to take a 115-111 victory over the Fayetteville Patriots at the Roanoke Civic Center. The Dazzle were led by forward Jason Clark, who recorded his first career double-double posting 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Five total Dazzle players scored in double figures led by 25 points from Anthony Grundy, 18 from Seth Doliboa, Clark?s 17, Andreas Glyniadakis with 13 and Isiah Victor with 10.
The Dazzle fell behind the Patriots early with Patriots forward Erik Daniels scoring 17 of his 25 points in the half and took the Patriots into the locker room with a 2-point lead. Daniels recorded a double-double for the game with his 25 points and a game high 12 rebounds.
In the second half, the Dazzle controlled much of the game behind Clark, Grundy and Doliboa, getting the Patriots into foul trouble. The Patriots were already short handed with the absence of Nigel Dixon, who is no longer with the team, the injury of Mark Karcher and with Robb Dryden fouling out in the first half. This edge allowed the Dazzle to run out to a 10-point lead late in the 4th quarter.
Patriots' guard Mike King, who scored 25 points in defeat, led a Fayetteville rally late, actually getting the game within 4 points in the final seconds. Late free throws by the Dazzle iced the victory.
Joining King and Daniels in double figures for the Patriots were Carlos Hurt with 20, Norm Richardson with 17 and Darnell Miller with 10 points.
Patriots Head Coach Mike Brown said, "We were shorthanded, in foul trouble and still in the end wound up in a 4-point game. We showed a lot of character."
Dazzle Coach Kent Davison likes what he sees in his team so far, "Some of them are still trying to get used to me, but we made some big plays when we needed. I would rather learn something from a win than the alternative."
The Dazzle, who are now 1-1 on the young season, will head to Ft. Myers, Fl. for the Thanksgiving holiday, with games against the Florida Flame on Friday and Saturday.
The Patriots, also 1-1, head out west to take on the Ft. Worth Flyers on Friday and the Austin Toros on Saturday.
