Roanoke Dazzle News Release
ROANOKE , Va , January 13, 2004 âGeorge Williams got his own rebound with 0.8 seconds left in overtime and dunked the ball at the buzzer for a 93-91 Roanoke win Tuesday night. Only after Terence Morris hit a 3 pointer over Williams with sixteen seconds left to tie the game 91-91.
"It was a crazy ugly game," said Dazzle Head Coach Kent Davison. "But all that matters is we came out with the win."
Roanoke blew a nine point lead at the end of the third by allowing Columbus to score six straight points in under a minute. The Dazzle then went on a five minute drought in the fourth to allow the Riverdragons a seven point lead.
Marque Perry hit back-to-back jump shots bringing the Dazzle within two points with 46 seconds to go. Josh Asselin intercepted a bad pass by Erron Maxey and took it all the way in to tie the game at 84 resulting in overtime.
Both teams struggled shooting the ball. Columbus finished the game 38-91, 41.8 percent, and Roanoke went 37-92, 40.2 percent.
Free-throw shooting wasn't any better. Roanoke hit only 50 percent, 16-32, from the line. Columbus hit, 11-16, for 68.8 percent.
"If we make seventy percent of our free throws we win the game," Davison said. "Shooting fifty percent will not cut it."
Mikki Moore led the Dazzle with 23 points. Kevin Lyde posted 21 for the Riverdragons.
