Roanoke Dazzle News Release

ROANOKE, VA - Anthony Grundy scored a game-high 29 points to lead the Roanoke Dazzle to a 111-104 victory over the Fayetteville Patriots in the "Showdown in Salem" at the Salem Civic Center.

The Dazzle, playing their first ever home game outside of the Roanoke Civic Center got 15 points from Grundy in the first half and looked to runaway with the game, storming out to a 20-point lead, at 51-31 with 5:17 left in the second quarter.

The Patriots showed their resiliency, behind 14 first-half points from Sharrod Ford and cut the lead to 12 points, 59-47 at the half.

Entering the second-half the Patriots would continue to cut into the Dazzle lead and eventually took a one point lead, 83-82 on a Kevin Lyde free-throw. The Patriot lead would be short lived however, as Dazzle point guard Will Bynum came right back down the court and sank a three-pointer to regain the Dazzle lead.

The Patriots would never lead again as the Dazzle controlled the fourth, re-extending their lead to as many as 11 points. The Dazzle would hold on until the final horn, to take the 111-104 victory.

Dazzle Head Coach Kent Davison was pleased with how his team responded to losing the big lead saying "Adversity is going to strike at some point during the game. That is where you have to show what kind of character and heart you have and hold them off. We did a nice job of that at the end."

Along with Grundy's 29 points, four other Dazzle players scored in double-figures with Will Bynum adding 23, P.J. Ramos chipping in with 21 points, while Jason Clark and D'or Fischer both chipped in with 11 point off the bench.

Patriots Head Coach Mike Brown was pleased with his team as it continues to gel, "For some guys this was their first game together. I saw some good things out there. As soon as we get some more cohesiveness we'll be fine."

The Patriots also had five players reach double-figures in scoring with Cliff Hawkins leading the way with 22, Melvin Sanders added 21, Ford recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds to go with his 14 points, Kevin Lyde also had 14 and Erik Daniels chipped in with 10 points.

With the win the Dazzle improve 13-14 on the season and have won six of their last eight games. The Dazzle will fly out west in the morning to take on the Austin Toros at the Austin Convention Center tomorrow night.

The loss drops the Patriots to 5-19 on the season. The Patriots will head home to host the Arkansas RimRockers at the Crown Coliseum, tomorrow night.
