Dazzle Announces Inaugural Governor's Commerce Cup Basketball Game

May 5, 2003 - NBA G League (G League)
Roanoke Dazzle News Release

ROANOKE, Va., May 5, 2003-- Governor Mark R. Warner will team up with the Roanoke Dazzle, American Electric Power, Flippin Densmore and the Virginia Department of Business Assistance to present the Inaugural Governor's Commerce Cup Basketball Game. The game will be held at Hidden Valley High School on May 12, at 6:00 p.m.

Governor Warner will team up with former professional and college players, as well as Virginia business executives on the court with Dazzle Head Coach Kent Davison, Roanoke College Head Coach Page Moir and Cave Spring's Boys Basketball Coach Billy Hicks coaching on the sidelines. Bill Roth, the voice of the Virginia Tech Hokies, will provide play-by-play action, while local high school cheerleaders, marching bands and the Floyd Ward School of Dance will perform. Referees from the NBDL and college conferences will officiate the game.

The Commerce Cup is part of the Commonwealth's Business Appreciation Week, designated as May 11 - 17, 2003. Coordinated by the Virginia Department of Business Assistance (DBA), Business Appreciation Week is a time when the state and its localities acknowledge the benefits brought to the people of Virginia by the businesses that continue to operate there year after year.

While much attention is given to incoming businesses and the positive impact they will have on a given area, the Dazzle believes it is important to also recognize the contributions made every day by existing businesses. It is these businesses, those who are already making Virginia a better place to live, that the Virginia Department of Business Assistance honors during this weeklong celebration.

The event is open to the public, and no tickets are required.
