GREENVILLE, S.C. (January 13, 2003) - The Roanoke Dazzle of the National Basketball Development League has acquired center Darrell Johns, according to an announcement today by NBDL Executive Director Karl Hicks and Dazzle Head Coach Kent Davison.
Johns replaces guard Richie Dalmau on the Roanoke roster. Dalmau has left the team for personal reasons.
Johns is no stranger to the NBDL, having played in 30 games (13 starts) for the Fayetteville Patriots last season. The 7-foot-1, 250-pound Chicago State ('01) product averaged 5.5 points and 4.6 rebounds in Fayetteville. The Patriots released Johns following training camp this season.
Dalmau played in 11 games for Roanoke after beginning the season in Fayetteville, averaging 6.6 points, 2.1 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game as a member of the Dazzle.
Johns is expected to be in uniform when Roanoke plays host to Asheville Wednesday at the Roanoke Civic Center. Tipoff is 7 p.m. ET.
