Daytona Beach Thunder News Release

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Daytona Beach Thunder owners Kevin McDonald, Zack McDonald and Antone Smothers annouced on Tuesday, June 13 that the American Indoor Football League franchise has parted ways with Head Coach/General Manager Ervin Bryson.

"We want to thank Coach Bryson for his efforts in helping indoor football get established in the Daytona Beach area," Zack McDonald said. "We wish him well in his future endeavors. But it is simply time for the football aspect of this franchise to head into a new direction."

The Thunder finished its inaugural season 6-8, losing six of its game by a combined total of 19 points. Daytona Beach started the season 0-3, rallied to improve to 5-4 to put itself in the AIFL's Southern Conference playoff picture, but a gut-wrenching three-game slide with a total point differerance of seven eliminated the team from post-season contention.

The Thunder hired Bryson after his work with a Daytona Beach team in another indoor football league. That team was 7-3 under his leadership despite inadequate support from its management. This was Bryson's fourth season as a head coach, and his career record is 23-22 with one playoff defeat.

A nationwide search has begun to find a new coach/director of football operations. The franchise is reviewing its performance during its inaugural season to improve operations for its second year for preparations are underway. The Ocean Center home opener will be February 11, 2007.

"We feel that we've created a succesful working enviroment that will attract championship caliber coaching dedicated to winning, developing talent, and representing the community," McDonald said. "We're looking forward to seeing where the next part of the journey takes us."
